About Nigel Blanchard
A Chartered Building Surveyor for over 30 years, Nigel has gained a wealth of experience in the property and construction industries ranging from acquisition surveys on the full spectrum of commercial properties to major project management instructions.
Nigel's advice is based on expert knowledge, gained at the highest level, working with clients such as British Land Plc, Delancey Estates and Smiths Industries Plc. His principles are based on becoming an effective member of the client's team to enable the client to leverage their time and also to deliver practical and cost-effective solutions. He is also a Chartered Project Manager, a Member of the Association of Project Managers and Fellow of the Building Engineers Association.
He was a member of skills panel for dilapidations at the RICS for 3 years and also sat on the working party of the CICSE for their publication of the "Client and the Role of the Planning Supervisor".
He has published articles on Planned Maintenance, Dilapidations and Construction Monitoring.
More recently he was project manager for Delancey Estates in connection with their 40 Portman Square London development and was instrumental in adopting the use of an alternative procurement strategy utilising the New Engineering Contract on this major new office building. One of the first commercial developments to adopt to adopt and integrated team approach with this type of contract.
Nigel's surveying career started with Landers & Associates (formerly Lander Bedells & Stewart Edwards), Surveyors to The Law Society where he undertook his training. He subsequently worked in both private and Local Authority practices including Chestertons, the Royal Borough of Kensington, Surrey County Council, the American Community School, R&W Estates and Robseal Construction Services.
Nigel joined Conrad Ritblat & Co in 1985 and was appointed to the Partnership in 1987. In 1996 he was appointed to the Operations Board.
Upon the merger of Colliers Erdman Lewis and Conrad Ritblat (on 1st June 2000), Nigel was promoted to National Head of Building Consultancy with overall responsibility for the Building Consultancy Department in both London and regional offices.
He left in December 2004 to set up his practice.
